Me and some friends are opening a new gym in our hometown, we would like to know about affiliations you recommend. We want the students to wear any gi/rashguards they want, and we want to offer a low cost fee to students to ensure those who want to train and learn can without money being in the way of people who would do it for the right reasons!
We have a name, that's all good, but for IBJJF competitions, we need to be under a registered team.

Why do you need an affiliation? You can get IBJJF membership without affiliating with anyone. Looks like your profile pic you're in a GB gym. Why do you want to change affiliations?

No you can't. You still need a IBJJF-approved "professor" to approve your membership application. And at least for brown and black belts, it needs to be a IBJJF-certified 2nd degree black belt (or 3rd if you're a "provinsional", which means you haven't paid during the previous belts).

You still don't need to be part of an affiliation.
